We opened Building Futures Pediatric Therapy in 2005 because we saw the need to eliminate the cookie-cutter approach to pediatric therapy. We opted to think outside the box and developed a creative avenue to therapy. We also wanted a family approach so that parents and caregivers were included throughout the process. That’s why we opened Building Futures and run it the way we do. Our first clinic was in Monroe, Louisiana.
Our success in reaching many families in the Monroe community spurred us on to open another clinic in Rutson to meet the needs of that community as well. At the time, the state-funded Early Steps early intervention program allowed us to work with children from birth to age 3. Once kids outgrew the program, their options were limited: they might get help from the public school system or, if eligible, go to designated Medicaid clinics. And so, even though we had an amazing clinic and were getting life-changing results, we were only allowed to treat children with private insurance.
When Louisiana finally privatized Medicaid through managed care providers, we jumped at the chance to become a provider. In fact, we were the first clinic in North Louisiana to sign on. That meant all kids could now experience our care in an environment where they could be just kids and families could access our expertise and equipment.
Today, we have three locations and some 50 clinical staff. As long as there are more families to help, we will continue to add facilities and staff to reach them.
